Blackout

When I was browsing the galleries around the DA website, this piece automatically caught me eye. This is a stunning piece, and it is clear how much effort has gone into it. I love the neutral tones and colours, which in theory should make the subject appear dull and flat, but remarkably the artist manages to make the subject and pose look alive and vibrant. The detail of the facial features and shadows are outstanding and the messy brushstrokes of the hair really work and give personality to the piece. I love the variety of the smudgy, bold background contrasting with the intricate detail of the face and hair. It also has to be mentioned that the artist has captured an amazing likeness to the subject. Well done.
